Education The Glasser Quality School ideas have been used to improve the quality of education for students in grades K-12 and beyond for over ten years. Counseling and Therapy Dr. Glasser began his work by developing Reality Therapy as a counseling technique to help people understand themselves and choose more effective behaviors to get their needs met. He developed Reality Therapy and later added Choice Theory Psychology to explain why the therapy is so effective. His most recent book on the subject of counseling and therapy is called Counseling with Choice Therapy the New Reality Therapy. In it he recommends teaching the client choice theory as a way to continue the therapeutic experience by providing them with skills for life. The book Choice Theory: A New Psychology of Personal Freedom can be read and discussed by groups of people facilitated by a skilled counselor in group therapy. Criminal Justice and Corrections For many years Dr. Glasser's work has been implemented in court-mandated diversion programs, by parole officers, and in prisons. Currently a program called The Choice Theory Connection Program has become very successful at the California Institute for Women. Studies show after three years implementation of the women trained in choice theory there has been zero percent recidivism. Choice theory used as a rehabilitation program helps inmates get along better with each other, with staff and ultimately live happier, more productive lives.
